Canada bids farewell

Canada bid farewell to Brian Mulroney, our 18th Prime Minister today. The entire funeral is online and can be seen here.

I have looked all over the internet for the source of this portrait of Prime Minister Mulroney but have not found it.

This black-and-white image is a remarkable portrait and speaks volumes of the kind of man he was. I have searched Google and the websites of some of the finer portrait photographers I know in the Ottawa area. This image is professionally done, orchestrated, printed and framed. The artist should be very proud. I see it capturing the man who saw how great this country was and how much better it could be. He picked his battles, keeping his eye on the bigger picture. Doing what he believed was best for the entire country.

In the past month, I have read a quote online, and I don’t know whether it had anything to do with the upcoming election south of the border, but it is certainly fitting for the situation there. It simply advised, “Never elect someone more interested in power than people.”  As people paid tribute to our 18th Prime Minister it became more and more clear that this was the kind of leader Brian Mulroney was. Everyone the media talked to seemed to have a story of when Brian Mulroney picked up the phone. How freely he offered words of concern and encouragement. These actions were done quietly, without fanfare or political motivation. Hearing all that has come to light in the last three weeks has made me realize how much he did that the average Canadian knew nothing about.

I can’t think of a political leader today who could hold a candle to the dedication and love of Canada that was Brian Mulroney, Canada’s 18th Prime Minister.

Rest in Peace.
