Cambridge, where I live, is blessed to have several outstanding coffee shops, particularly in the areas of Galt and Hespeler. One of my favourites is Grand Cafe on Main Street. Going for coffee is seldom just about the coffee. Often, I am accompanied by a good book, and sometimes my camera tags along. Sipping and reading one morning this week, I looked up from one of my current reads; The Creative of Act: A Way of Being”. Across the road, the cornerstone of Central Presbyterian Church caught my eye. I sat and watched how it changed its appearance as the sun popped in and out from the clouds. It wasn’t the whole church but just the cornerstone that caught my attention.
Coffee done, I put my book away and grabbed my backup camera from the SUV, made decisions about depth of field, exposure and angle of view with the following results.
You can’t stop at one…
It’s like a potato chip or Timbit; you cannot stop at one.
In the past couple of weeks, I noticed how the “Craig Bridge” lined up with the towers of the “Gaslight District.” I knew there was an image there that I wanted to create but I hadn’t decided on the right angle or the right time of day. I was leaning toward a nightfall shot. Late morning was not what I had in mind, but I had the camera, and I was in the mood to create, so let’s have a look. It wasn’t what I had in mind, but I like the result.
it happens in stages…
Like a good cup of coffee, an idea has to percolate.
When I got out of the SUV, I was faced with another view I intended to capture and process. I took the camera and viewed the subject. It wasn’t right. I moved down the street a few feet and took another look. That was better.
I have another idea for this setting, but I will need to find a couple of willing models, both two and four-legged kind.
After making the above photograph I walked up the ramped pathway to see if I was going to be able to get an image of “Craig’s Bridge” and the towers of the “Gaslight District.” Sometimes you get real lucky and stumble across an image you weren’t expecting. Like this one.
I hope you enjoy my views of where I live – Cambridge Ontario
