Good-bye old friend.

Good-bye old friend.

It was sometime around 2008 or 2009 I think, when I bought this used Epson 7600 printer from a photographer friend.  Since then every print that is 24 inches or smaller on the short side has been printed on this printer.

Long-time clients soon commented that they saw a remarkable change in my portraits. Printing in house has allowed me to customize my portraits and raise the level of professionalism. In the past 10 or so years I have learned printing is part science and part art. The famous photographer Ansel Adams is quoted as saying “the negative is the score, the print is the performance.” Today the negative is replaced with the digital capture, but print is still the presentation where the photographer brings life to his vision. I love printing my own work.

But it’s time to say good-bye to my friend, for tomorrow it retires, to be replaced with a brand new Epson P6000 complete with the latest technology and superior pigmented inks. I am excited to get acquainted with a new friend and discover what we might create together.

The next couple weeks will be spent climbing a new learning curve and discovering new horizons. Life is an adventure.
