Ready for its close up

The Main Street bridge in Cambridge is ready for its close up after recently receiving a facelift.

The bridge is featured in many television shows and movies including the Handmaid’s Tale. Keeping the bridge in pristine condition is simply a case of the city protecting its assets.

Long time residence of the city will recall when we had three bridges like this. The Parkhill bridge was replaced years ago with a four lane bridge to handle increased traffic.

The replacement of the Concession Street bridge was an embarrassment to the city. Reports claimed the bridge was in danger of collapsing at anytime and for public safety it had to come down and be replaced. Dynamite charges were set to bring the bridge down, but when the dust settled the bridge hadn’t moved. The third attempt at destroying the bridge was successful. It’s kind of like the Riverside Park dam. Fourteen years ago city staff said it was in immanent danger of collapse and needs to be destroyed. Kind of makes me think what really should be replaced is the city staff.
