How much do you use your review mirror?
August in review; is it a good idea to look back at a month just past? Looking where you are going should take presidents over where you have been, yet where you are coming from is going to impact where you are going.
Sadness vs. excitement
As a kid August was always a difficult blending of sadness and excitement. If your father worked in a plant (factory) the Civic Holiday Monday marked the end to the annual plant shutdown and vacation for many families, and our fathers returned to the grind of labour. For us “little people” it was the middle of summer vacation. Yet as the month move on sadness of the realization of the end of summer was mixed with the excitement of a new school year and the new clothing and school supplies that came with the start of a new school year. September was and for many still is far more a start of a new year than January first.
August 2025
One of the more recent traditions of August has been “RIBFEST.” In Cambridge is Ribfest is produced and managed by Impact Events Group Inc., a professional event management company. The event is held in support of the Rotary Cambridge Sunrise club. This year, Saturday included a car show.
Golf
I do love golfing. I’m not good at it but I do love the challenge of laying better than I did the last time out. I also enjoy the scenery and the walk – for the most part. Looking for my ball in the underbrush is not one f mat favourite parts of the game.

Change
Left over from our childhood, is the feeling that August is a time to prepare for new beginnings in September. I announced earlier in the year I was retiring abd boit taking in any new commissioned work. As a result I also needed to mke a decision on what to do about the website. Do I keep the site as a place to share my creations or should I shut everything down completely? There is a cost in keeping the website – web hosting, maintenance, etc., and after due consideration i decided to keep the site for at least one more year. You may have noticed some changes already. The logo has changed from John Mitchell Photography to John Mitchell – Fine Art Photographer. The usual pages and galleries have been removed and I am in the process of creating new pages for my photographic art. The new pages include Landscape, Architecture, and Photo-Journalism photography. There will be a new page of images that are for sale. You can e-mail me requests for any image in this gallery that you wish to obtain. The future of the website will hinge on the success of selling enough images and generating enough income to surpass expenses.
Till next time.
